The Rotary Club of Bradford West: Sept/Oct 2013 news

Like the Windmill Theatre in London during World War II, which boasted “We Never Closed”, the Rotary Club of Bradford West continues all the year round, with something interesting or exciting happening every week. Since our long weekend to Chester, reported in the July Bingley Rural, we have been very active, providing marshals and first aid for the Cancer Support Bradford & Airedale charity’s 10k walk. We have also taken disabled children from Southfield Grange School to Ponderosa Animal Farm for a great day out.

One of our members organised an evening trip to see the work that the Calderdale Search and Rescue do. The group took their rescue dogs on an exercise above Heptonstall, followed by a call at a local pub in Mytholmroyd.

Our President Dr Anne Raine had a coffee morning, raising funds to send a young lady to Venezuela on an exchange visit. The club organised a “Wars of the Roses” evening for Yorkshire Day, taking place on 2nd of August at the Ring O’ Bells in Thornton. Speakers for both counties made their pitch for supremacy! It was quite a night.

Our programme for September occurs at our usual meeting place, Sandal Farm, every Thursday lunchtime. On the 5th, Katherine Hale, our group study student, will share her experiences of Venezuela. On the 12th, our Rotary District Governor, Mark Stewart-Clarke, will bring us up to date on what the district is doing. Saturday 14th will see President Anne Raine taking part in the World’s Largest Coffee Morning for Macmillan Nurses at Cornerstone (Great Horton Methodist Church) 10am to 12noon. On the 19th we will have a business meeting, followed by our charter dinner on the evening of Thursday 26th. We will also be holding a clothes exchange at St Matthew’s Church, Wilsden.
